During hurricane season we left Sunriser in Curaçao at Seru Boca marina for a 10 week trip to The Netherlands and Spain to visit friends and family. We found Sunriser back dusty and a little rusty but further in good shape.
The dinghy lock was so rusty we could not open it any and some really brute force had to be applied to separate it from the safety cable.
Willemstad is the capital of Curaçao, a busy town with two major neighbourhoods, Puna and Otrobanda, separated by the Queen Emma bridge. Punda looks very pretty from the other side of the bay with its typical Dutch colourful houses.
We had a wonderful time with our friends Max and Anne-Marie who live in Curaçao already for 18 years. Thanks to them we did a very nice hike at the North of the island and sat under the shade of the tree of life
At the Christoffelpark the volunteers try to protect the turtles from the plastic pollution washing into the beaches.
Also the Branch coral foundation , started by Max van Aalst, son of Max and Anne-Marie, does a great job in the preservation of the sea life in Curaçao
Max and Anne-Marie also showed us around in Otrobanda to see the beautiful murals and decorated houses.
We will now leave Sunriser again, well tucked in Seru Boca Marina, for a 5 week land tour in Colombia and Peru, before we go back to sailing. We hope we won’t miss too much our floating home….
Wij waren in januari op Curaçao en alle herinneringen komen weer terug bij jullie foto’s.
Heel wat anders dan zeilen uiteraard, maar ook heel wat anders dan Nederland zelf terwijl je er overal met “Nederlands” terecht kunt.
Goede voortzetting van jullie reis.
