We finished the Hiswa boat show last week. We met many people who have the same dream to set off and start a new phase. What most forget is that a new phase can not start without saying goodbye to the old, not knowing what the new will actually bring. I stopped working last week and Beatriz next month.
I have worked for 32 years, of which 25 with my own company. had over 100 customers, some a few days, some many years, met thousands of people, of which some became lifelong friends and mostly loved the assignments I was given. Until yesterday I still joined the weekly company gym of one of my former customers. On our first week to the south we passed by the offices (IJmuiden and Scheveningen) of the fishing company I worked for the last years. Also this assignment was great fun and will miss the team dearly. I do not know if I will continue this work in the future as I still like it, but the focus is now on the sailing life.
As Beatriz is still working this month we decided that I would take the boat with friends to the south, as it is already late in the season and then Beatriz can join in hopefully a warmer place.
This first week Henk and Carla joined. The wind was quite weak and could only sail 4 hours in the 3 day journey. After crossing Rotterdam (very busy port) we spotted some seals resting in the sun with Rotterdam in the background. The picture was taken through the binoculars, hence the round shape.
The rest of the week was dedicated to doing administration and selling one of the cars (this one was my childhoods dream…) and our rowing machine (we now have the dingy…).
The coming weeks we will sail from Hellevoetsluis further south with Maurice, Matthieu (who also joined 6 years ago when we sailed with the former boat to France) and Alex (my cousin who needs miles for his RYA (sailing) diploma’s and is a great cook).

Wij hoorden van mijn zwager Peter Andreoli van de plannen met de Sunriser. Wij wensen jullie heel veel succes. Als de mogelijkheid zich aandient zullen wij graag een deel van het traject meemaken als opstapper. Ik vaar al meer dan 30 jaar met vrienden, aanvankelijk op eigen schepen ( Hutting , Swon en ik zelf met een Hoogaars), de laatste jaren met anderen op de Noordzee, Golf van Biscaje en Middellandse Zee. Het bloed kruipt waar het niet gaan kan.

Ik dacht een reactie te hebben gegeven op jouw blog, maar zie hem niet terug. Ik ben een zwager van Peter Andreoli en volg de activiteiten van Sunriser met belangstelling. Ik zou de nieuwsbrief graag ontvangen. Terzijde, ik heb met een vriend al meer dan 30 jaar tochten gemaakt over de Noordzee, Golf van Biskaje en Middellandse Zee. Aanvankelijk met zeilboten van mijn zeilmaten (Hutting en Swon) en onze Hoogaars. Sinds enkele jaren hebben wij geen boot meer en varen als opstappers mee. Wij zouden het ook leuk vinden als opstapper van de Sunriser een deel van een tocht mee te mogen maken.
